The Devil Made Me Do It? Part 3

Part 1 was about knowing that there is a spiritual war taking place, that the enemy is Satan and his legions of followers, and how they attack.

Part 2 was about the belt of truth – His Word, His love letter to us.  We need to not only read the Bible but meditate on it, “hide it in our hearts,” then call on His words, and rely on God’s supernatural protection to defeat Satan.  We cannot do it on our own, but we need to do our part.

Part 3 continues with Ephesians 6 in verse 18 “And pray in the Spirit at all times with all kinds of prayers and requests…” Even if we are aware of Satan’s strategy, plans & attacks, and we hide His word in our hearts, we cannot call upon God’s protection unless we are in constant contact with Him.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:17 God gives us a direct command to “Pray without ceasing.” Even though we cannot spend 24/7 on our knees we can have an ongoing attitude of prayer; we can depend on God and rely on the Holy Spirit inside of us – then we will be more likely to pray throughout the day and more likely to call upon Him when are tempted.

When Jesus was tempted in the desert (Matthew 4:1-11) what was His reaction – what did He turn to? He prayed and quoted the Word. I will leave you with this one final thought: If Jesus, God Himself, needed to pray and quote the Word when He was tempted how much more do we need to use the same strategy?

In His Service,

Ed
