What a Wonderful World?

Dear Friends and Family,

What a wonderful world we do live in!  When we were living in Switzerland I rode the train to work every day and I would sit in the same seat everyday so I could have a perfect view of sun rising up over the Alps – very much like the photo on the right. After 3 years this view never grew old or become routine – it amazed me every single day. This is a wonderful, beautiful world that God created and we get to enjoy!

And while we are to enjoy the beauty that God created Read the rest of this entry »

Smart Aleck Kids?

Friends and Family,

Back in December, my men’s small group, aka PMSG – Point Man Small Group (named after Steve Farrar’s book), had the wonderful opportunity to listen to 3 college kids talk about how to be a better dad.  Based on this session, one of our guys, Brett, wrote an outstanding post on his blog titled “What Smart Aleck College Kids Can Teach About Parenting.”

Dads, I urge you to read this article – there is about 60 years of kid experience summarized into this one article. Some of it you have heard before, some of you haven’t – I guarantee it.

 Smart Aleck Kids

After you read it come back and I would love to hear your dad advice!

 In His Service,

 Ed

Where’s Dad?

Friends and Family,

The title of this comes from a classic message from Dr. James Dobson and Focus on the Family.  This was an incredible message addressing dads and the importance of dads being present. FOTF’s research showed that on average a dad spends 37 seconds per day talking with each child; not time caring for but time actually talking with their kids.

This title also has very significant meaning to me since Read the rest of this entry »

Crystal Ball?

Dear Friends and Family,

With the start of school right around the corner my thoughts turn to where Alli will go to college in the fall of 2012. Having been through the college selection process twice (for myself and for Derrick) I am reminded that while we plan, desire, and hope for the future God often has other plans.

For me I dreamed of going to Read the rest of this entry »

Backseat Driver?

Friends and Family,

Recently I was on a mission trip to Guatemala with Seek ‘n Serve Ministries.  A standard part of the mission trip and one of the highlights for me was attending a local church on Sunday morning.  The pastor said something that morning I cannot get out of my head.  At first Read the rest of this entry »

Cup or Coffee?

Friends and Family,

Today I came across this very interesting story/analogy that I wanted to share titled “God’s Coffee.”

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee Read the rest of this entry »

The Golden Rule?

Friends and Family,

There is much debate about where the Golden Rule originates but many attribute it to Jesus of Nazareth. Relatively early in His ministry He said, in Luke 10:27 in the Parable of the Good Samaritan, “And love your neighbor as yourself.”

But for some reason one of Jesus’ last commandments He spoke directly to His disciples is not as widely know or talked about. Read the rest of this entry »

Most Wonderful Time of the Year?

Spring 2011

Dear Friends and Family,

Easter is just 9 days away and I recently remembered reading a sign hanging in a storefront while we were living in Switzerland in the late 1990’s. It read something like “Weihnachten würde nichts ohne Ostern sein” which translates to “Christmas Read the rest of this entry »
